Silicon Valley Startup Making Silicon Prairie Their Home

Monolith Materials, a Silicon Valley, CA industrial technology startup has decided to locate its manufacturing headquarters in the Lincoln area. Rob Hanson, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, described Monolith’s growth plans and why they’ve chosen Lincoln as their new home at a press event at FUSE Coworking on Wednesday, October 5th at 10:30 a.m. This announcement coincided with their participation in the LNK DNA’s Startup Week. The Mayor of Lincoln, Chris Beutler, State Director of Economic Development, Courtney Dentlinger, and President of Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Wendy Birdsall, will all be present to make remarks post-announcement from Monolith.

Monolith, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, is bringing manufacturing back to America with innovative technology that is cost competitive and environmentally sustainable. Monolith is doing this after spending the past four years developing a first-of-its kind technology to manufacture carbon black, a commodity material that’s found in everyday products like tires, ink, and electronics. Monolith is now scaling up and building the first large-scale carbon black plant in the US in over 30 years – choosing the heart of America for this monumental next-generation project in manufacturing.

Monolith’s local impact will be extensive, as their manufacturing headquarters has the potential to create 600 new jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in new capital investment in the state of Nebraska. They plan to grow their team to 50 employees over the next 18 months. Positions include engineers, project managers, plant operators, and materials handlers.

Monolith Materials is a next-generation, carbon black manufacturing company which uses a proprietary process to convert natural gas to carbon black in a cost competitive and environmentally advantaged manner. Monolith’s process also produces hydrogen tail-gas, a valuable co-product that can be sold into the power generation or industrial gas markets. Monolith is backed by Azimuth Capital Management and Warburg Pincus, two of the most widely respected private equity firms in North America. For more information, visit
